Nurse Educators (CNE)

Health Facilities Surveillance Nurse

PROS:

Surveillance nurse enjoy investigation ,learning different things every day and ensuring the safety of residents. Ensuring government compliance .Everyday is a different day in this job.

CONS:

Pay

Neonatal ICU (NICU)

Childrens of San Antonio

PROS:

Lots of culture there if you like that, new building/re model done (and still going), association with Baylor University Medical School, progressive in some ways yet old-school in others. Nice mix for the nurse who isn't terribly particular about IT issues.

CONS:

EXTREMELY DISORGANIZED THROUGHOUT THE SYSTEM... Many jobs being done by 2 or more people that could be condensed to one. The attitude is laid back which can be nice but in my experience, tends to lean toward lazy. There are a large number of people who have worked there for a very long time and are bitter and don't do the greatest job but skate by. They are allowed to do so without reproach while new staff or travelers are scrutinized for petty things like not charting a number in all 3-4 places it should be, even though they have a computer charting system that only requires it in one spot (so no double and triple charting happens) but they have "policied" their way around that and made it a bone of contention with nurses who have been anywhere that frowns on double/triple charting. The answer is always" because that's how we have always done it."

Orthopedics

very nice working conditions and people

PROS:

coworkers were really nice to work with and I remain friends with several of them to this day and recall my nights there with pleasure

CONS:

pay could have been higher and it was difficult when they had the Fiesta downtown as the traffic was rather difficult
